‘The Madgies’ complete double over design rivals

If the mark of a good team is that they can play poorly and still win then on Monday night, 'The Madgies' proved themselves to be a truly great team. Despite leaving their shooting boots at home, FC Imagination managed to ease past Futurebrand 4-2 to go level top in the league, and to claim bragging rights amongst the three design agencies involved.

If reaction to the win was subdued as we sprinted straight from pitch to pub to watch Manchester's title decider, it shouldn't take away from a comfortable victory with some notable performances. Dallender finally broke his duck, bagging a brace with two firmly hit drives that gave the Futurebrand 'keeper no chance. Tiffin also added two in the second half, each rounding off a period of sustained pressure as 'The Madgies' attacked their favoured Cage End.

All of this was achieved after going behind, as Futurebrand took an early lead with a speculative shot from halfway while FC Imagination 'keeper Warwick seemed to be distracted by the arrival of the DDB women's netball team on the adjacent pitch.

Scoring was rounded out by a fine effort from Bird who continued his scoring streak, latching onto a through-ball despite determined pressure from Futurebrand and clinically placing a side-footed shot that sent the 'keeper the wrong way. Another contender for goal of the season, if only it hadn't been at the wrong end.

Typically high-energy performances from Aspell, Hughes, Finlay-Stephenson and solid debuts from Kong and Brown kept the pressure on and ensured that FC Imagination never truly looked like losing. Brown was particularly unfortunate to be denied by a fine save from a shot that appeared bound for the top corner.

A week off for the bank holiday is followed by a top-of the table clash with FC Cartils and so it seems fitting to finish with these motivational words from Gil Harris, FC Imagination's Technical Director and Legal Advisor: "You guys are the nuts, the best, well done!"

Hopefully our next game will prove him right.

Come on the Madgies - has due

Come on the Madgies - has due scouting diligence been done on FC Cartils to find weaknesses and plan to exploit them?
