A cultural showcase celebrating a global brand. AkzoNobel

Bringing the colour and excitement of Rio de Janeiro to Amsterdam for one night only.

 

Challenge

To celebrate AkzoNobel’s Brazilian operations, by creating media coverage in their domestic Dutch market as well as in Brazil, by staging the opening ceremony of Amsterdam’s Brazil festival.

 

Insight

AkzoNobel is the largest global paints and coatings company and a major producer of specialty chemicals. At their core they are a colour company.

 

Solution

A sambadrome was installed on Museumplein in the centre of Amsterdam which accommodated 6,000 members of the public and featured a celebration of Brazil, prior to a spectacular opening ceremony.

 

A taste of Rio came to the streets of Amsterdam with a street parade featuring 500 performers and a bateria of 100 drummers. The parade ended in the sambadrome where digital mapping projection brought the stage to life, showcasing the work of renowned Brazilian fashion designer Ronaldo Fraga, along with multimedia imagery, all set to the sounds of Brazil.

 

Princess Maxima of the Netherlands opened the Festival alongside AkzoNobel Chairman Hans Wijers and the opening ceremony ended with a magnificent fireworks display.

 

Results

Over 600 press articles appeared on-line and in the newspapers on both continents, with live coverage being broadcast on the Brazilian news channel and via YouTube.
